Time-efficient Healthy Eating for Frigg Women and Their Families
Because Frigg is a mother, wife, and queen of her domain, if you identify with her, you are probably a woman who is busy devoting time to your children, husband, and home or you may be lending a helping hand at church or synagogue, babysitting someone else’s children, or organizing your daughters birthday party or a large family reunion. Whatever you are doing, you may not always have time to plan daily nutritious family meals so here are some manageable tips to achieve a healthy and balanced diet for you and your family.
Plan a menu for the week, from the menu write a shopping list, and only shop once or twice a week. This saves time, encourages well-balanced meals and snacks, and cuts down on junk food in the house.
Meal prep a couple of hours per week for staples like rice, beans, oatmeal, pasta, quinoa, cut vegetables, green salads etc. Sundays are a great day to prepare for the week.
Have healthy quick meals and snack foods on hand to throw together like a string cheese wrapped in non-nitrate lunch meat, yogurt, fruit and granola, peanut butter or other nut butter with celery, banana or apple slices, baked potato, or sweet potato wedges, hard-boiled eggs, guacamole, humus with veggies, whole-grain pita pockets, corn tortillas, or cottage cheese and fruit. A combination of protein and carbohydrates, high protein or high fiber foods are a great way to create these healthy bites to eat.
Ask for help planning, cooking, prepping, and shopping. Send a partner, roommate, or teenage child to the store. Share the task of shopping and prepping with a friend or another mom, ask kids or your partner to cook or prep some of the ingredients in a meal, or ask your partner to cook some of the weekly meals.
Use protein powder in a shake or as an addition to different types of milk to get extra protein into your diet without much prep time.
Take advantage of stores and grocery shopping pick-up services—since COVID-19, many stores have shopper assistance at little to no cost. This can save a lot of time and energy.
Get in the habit of taking a family water jug or bottles for each family member wherever you go. Water is an essential nutrient and a key to keeping afternoon energy levels high.
